Bottom line: MONTKUSH is one of a handful of U.S. brands that grows its own USDA Organic hemp and presses it into rosin without solvents — heat and pressure only. That process is also why the brand has a real CBDa line, which most CBD companies don’t. The catch is price: the 1500 mg rosin tincture is $124.99 against $74.99 for Cornbread Hemp’s comparable USDA Organic bottle — about 1.7× per milligram. There’s a second catch most write-ups skip: not everything MONTKUSH sells is rosin. The “True” line is CO₂-extracted, and one of its best-selling oils is isolate.
Buy it if you specifically want solventless, organic, CBDa-rich hemp from a farm you can name. Skip it if you’re optimizing cost per milligram, want to open a bottle and return it if it doesn’t suit you, or need a pet product.

Pros
- Genuinely solventless — rosin pressed with heat and pressure, no CO₂, ethanol or butane on the core line
- Seed-to-bottle on one USDA Organic farm in Vermont, which almost no CBD brand can claim
- A real CBDa catalog: oil, gummies and topicals, not a single token product
- Tinctures are two or three ingredients — organic MCT plus the rosin
- Batch-level COAs with lot numbers on their own subdomain, linked from product pages
- A+ with the Better Business Bureau and only two complaints filed in three years
- Sleep formulas use CBN rather than melatonin
- Named, public founder with a documented reason for starting the company
Things to consider
- The most expensive mainstream option we track — about 1.7× Cornbread Hemp per milligram
- “Solventless” is the marketing, but the whole “True” range is CO₂-extracted and True Daily Oil 2000mg is isolate
- The returns window is narrow: new customers, one product, unopened packaging
- The brand’s own pages contradict each other on press tonnage and on the free-shipping threshold
- No veteran or first-responder discount, which is unusual in this category
- No pet products at all
- Almost no independent footprint — we found no meaningful Reddit discussion and no verifiable Trustpilot profile
- The COA index doesn’t name the third-party lab, and an independent reviewer flagged missing COAs on the newest sleep formula
What “solventless rosin” actually means
Almost every CBD oil on the U.S. market is made by washing hemp with something. CO₂ extraction pushes pressurized carbon dioxide through plant material; ethanol extraction soaks it. Both are legitimate, both are cleaned up afterwards, and both are what you’re buying when a label says “supercritical CO₂.”
A rosin press uses neither. Hemp goes between heated plates, pressure is applied, and resin is squeezed out the way you’d press oil from an olive. Nothing is washed through the plant, so there is no solvent to purge and no residual-solvent step to trust. MONTKUSH presses its own flower this way and calls the result “fresh squeezed.”
A transparency note. MONTKUSH’s own pages cite two different press figures — one says more than 30 tons of pressure, another says a 200-ton press. We’re not quoting a number, because the brand hasn’t settled on one. The method is verifiable from their process page and from independent coverage; the specific tonnage isn’t.
The practical difference for a buyer is narrower than the marketing suggests. A well-run CO₂ extraction also produces a clean, full-spectrum oil, and residual solvents show up on a decent COA either way. Where solventless genuinely changes the product is the next section.
CBDa: the part low-heat pressing preserves
In a living hemp plant there is very little CBD. There is CBDa — cannabidiolic acid, the raw acidic form. Heat converts CBDa into CBD, a reaction called decarboxylation, and most extraction workflows apply enough heat that the CBDa is largely gone by the time it reaches a bottle.
Press at low temperature and a meaningful share of the CBDa survives. That is why “solventless rosin” and “CBDa” keep appearing together on MONTKUSH’s labels: it isn’t a marketing pairing, it’s a consequence of the process. Their Raw CBDA Oil Drops, CBDA Rosin Gummies and the CBDA + CBD topicals all lean on it.
Research on CBDa in humans is early and thin. We are not going to tell you it does something CBD doesn’t — nobody can responsibly claim that yet. What we can say is that if you want to try CBDa at all, the number of U.S. brands selling it in more than one format is small, and MONTKUSH is one of them. If you’re still deciding between cannabinoids, our guide to CBN and sleep covers the same question for the sleep-specific minor cannabinoid.
Where the rosin ends and the CO₂ begins
Quick vocabulary first, because the rest of this section depends on it. Full spectrum keeps the whole plant profile including trace THC. Broad spectrum strips the THC out but keeps the other cannabinoids. Isolate is CBD alone, nothing else.
MONTKUSH runs two production lines, and the branding doesn’t separate them clearly on the shelf. This is the part we’d want explained if we were the one paying, and it’s missing from most write-ups about the brand.
| Line | What’s in it | How it’s made |
|---|---|---|
| Rosin (solventless) | Natural, Mint and Raw CBDA Oil Drops; CBDA Rosin Gummies; Pain Relief Cream and Roll-On; Body Dose massage oil | Pressed in-house, no solvents |
| “True” line | True Daily, True Sleep, True Vibe — gummies, softgels and oils | CO₂ extraction |
| Also CO₂ | Whole Flower CBD Oil; Pure Full Spectrum Gummies and Softgels | CO₂ extraction |

Worth knowing before you click add-to-cart. True Daily CBD Oil 2000mg is a CBD isolate, THC-free product. It is the cheapest oil MONTKUSH sells per milligram and it is the furthest thing in the catalog from the “whole plant” story the brand tells. That isn’t dishonest — the product page says so — but if you came for solventless full-spectrum rosin, that bottle isn’t it.
None of this makes the CO₂ products bad. It means that if the solventless process is your reason for buying MONTKUSH rather than a cheaper competitor, you need to buy from the rosin line specifically, and that line is the expensive half of the catalog.
Products to consider
Raw — CBDA Oil Drops
The product that actually justifies the brand’s positioning: solventless rosin, full spectrum, CBDa preserved, and a two-ingredient formula — organic fractionated coconut oil plus the rosin itself. Three strengths in a 30 ml bottle. The 1500 mg is the only sensible one to buy; stepping up from 500 mg cuts the cost per milligram by about 31%.
Full Spectrum CBDA Rosin Gummies
Pectin-based and vegan, 15 mg CBDa plus 1 mg THC per gummy, strawberry. The cheapest way to find out whether CBDa suits you before committing to a $125 bottle — though on a per-milligram basis gummies are always the worst value in a CBD catalog, and these are no exception.
Pain Relief Roll-On & Cream (CBDA + CBD)
The topicals are where MONTKUSH’s pricing stops looking punishing: $0.040–$0.047 per milligram, less than half what the tinctures cost. Both pair the organic hemp rosin with 10% menthol and 5% camphor — the cooling agents you’d find in a drugstore rub, on top of the cannabinoids. If you sit at a desk all day, this is the format we’d point you to first; see our guide to neck and back pain from sitting.
True Sleep CBN, CBD & THC Softgels
A CBN-forward sleep stack with no melatonin, which we think is the right call for anyone who wants to use it more than occasionally. It is CO₂-extracted, so it doesn’t carry the solventless story — buy it for the formula, not the process.
Pricing, cost per milligram and how to save
Cost per milligram is the only honest way to compare CBD, and it’s the number MONTKUSH loses on.

Cornbread Hemp is the fairest comparison — also USDA Organic, also with a CBDa product — and it is about 40% cheaper per milligram, or $50 less per 1500 mg bottle. If organic certification is what you’re paying for rather than the press, buy that. MONTKUSH’s premium is a solventless premium, and you should decide consciously whether it’s worth $50 a bottle to you. We’ve reviewed CBDistillery’s 2500mg full-spectrum oil and Charlotte’s Web’s original formula separately if you want the long version on either.

Lab testing and COA transparency
MONTKUSH publishes certificates of analysis on a dedicated site, coa.montkush.com, organized by format, with lot and batch numbers on individual reports and QR codes on packaging. At the time of writing there were 32 certificates covering gummies, oils, softgels and topicals, and the reports break out CBD, CBDa, CBN, CBDV and THC rather than a single total. Product pages link straight through. That is above average for the category.
Two gaps stop it being excellent. The index doesn’t name the third-party laboratory, so you can verify the numbers but not who produced them. And an independent reviewer, CBD Brand Review, noted that they could not locate a COA for the newest True Sleep formula and that some products carry only a single-page certificate rather than a full panel. If you’re buying a specific batch, open the COA before you order and check that the lot number on the report matches the bottle you receive.
New to reading these? Our beginner’s guide to CBD oils walks through what to look for on a panel.
Shipping, returns and the fine print
- Shipping: USPS, up to seven business days, free over $75. Discreet, child-resistant packaging.
- Not available in: Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota, plus Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. No international shipping.
- Returns: 30 days, but the conditions are tight — first-time customers only, one product per order, and the packaging must be unopened. Original shipping isn’t refunded. By comparison, CBDistillery gives 60 days and Cornbread Hemp accepts opened bottles.
- Damaged or missing items: report within three days with photos; replacements ship within five.
- No veteran, first-responder, student or senior discount that we could find.
Read the guarantee before you rely on it. “30-day money-back guarantee” reads like a try-it-and-see offer. Here it is closer to a return policy for an unopened box. If your reason for buying is “I want to find out whether this works for me,” that guarantee will not cover you.
What customers say
MONTKUSH’s on-site ratings are strong, and the sample sizes are real rather than token.
| Product | Rating | Reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Raw CBDA Oil Drops | 4.74 / 5 | 456 |
| Natural CBD Oil Drops | 4.75 / 5 | 307 |
| Mint CBD Oil Drops | 4.73 / 5 | 331 |
| Pain Relief Roll-On | 4.67 / 5 | 289 |
| Pure Full Spectrum Softgels | 4.79 / 5 | 248 |
Those are brand-hosted reviews, which means they are worth something — but not the same something as an independent platform.
Independently, the picture is thinner than we’d like. The Better Business Bureau lists the company at A+ with two complaints in three years, which for a consumer brand of this age is genuinely low; one of those was a fulfillment dispute that traced back to a third-party retailer rather than MONTKUSH’s own store. An independent reviewer, CBD Brand Review, rates the brand at the top of its scale and singles out the extraction, farming and testing, while criticizing the small catalog and the absence of a physical address on the site.
Beyond that, almost nothing. No Trustpilot profile we could verify. No real discussion in the CBD subreddits either — and that one is strange. Those forums argue about extraction methods for fun, and this brand’s entire pitch is its extraction method. The negative feedback we could verify is small in volume and clusters on two themes: taste, and the oil not doing what the buyer hoped. Both are the usual complaints in this category, and both are worth weighing against a returns policy that doesn’t cover opened bottles.
One warning if you go searching yourself: results for “MONTKUSH gummies” are heavily polluted with automatically generated spam pages hosted on unrelated domains. They are not reviews. Stick to the brand’s own site, the BBB and named publications.

| Specifically want solventless extraction and will pay for it | Are optimizing cost per milligram — almost everything else is cheaper |
| Want CBDa in more than one format | Want to try a bottle and return it if it doesn’t suit you |
| Care that the hemp is USDA Organic and traceable to one farm | Need a product for a dog or cat |

How we rated MONTKUSH
We score every brand against the same five published criteria, weighted as below, and we don’t test products ourselves — this is a desk review of published evidence, not a hands-on trial. You can read the full review methodology.
| Criterion | Weight | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Third-party lab testing & COA transparency | 25% | 4.5 | Batch-level COAs on a dedicated site with lot numbers and minor cannabinoids broken out. Marked down for not naming the lab and for reported gaps on the newest formula. |
| Ingredients & sourcing | 25% | 4.8 | USDA Organic hemp from the brand’s own farm, solventless extraction, two- and three-ingredient tinctures. Among the best sourcing stories in the category. |
| Price & value | 20% | 2.9 | The rosin line is the most expensive per milligram we track. Topicals are competitive; tinctures are not. The restrictive guarantee compounds the risk of paying the premium. |
| Brand transparency & track record | 15% | 3.8 | Named founder, public press, A+ BBB. Marked down for contradictory published figures and for branding that doesn’t separate the rosin and CO₂ lines clearly. |
| Customer experience signals | 15% | 4.0 | High brand-hosted ratings on meaningful sample sizes and very few formal complaints, offset by a near-absent independent footprint. |
| Weighted total | 100% | 4.1 / 5 | A specialist product priced like a specialist product. |
How MONTKUSH compares
| Brand | Per mg | Returns | USDA Organic | CBDa line | Extraction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MONTKUSH | $0.083 | 30 days, unopened | Yes | Yes | Solventless rosin (core line) |
| Cornbread Hemp | $0.050 | 30 days, opened OK | Yes | Yes | Organic cane ethanol |
| CBDistillery | $0.062 | 60 days | No | Not published | Not published |
| Charlotte’s Web | ~$0.067 | Not published | No | Not published | CO₂ |

Read as a set: Cornbread Hemp is the organic value pick, CBDistillery is the one with the longest safety net, and MONTKUSH is the one you buy when the extraction method itself is the thing you want. For a different corner of the market again, Hemp Bombs is the isolate specialist — a genuinely THC-free catalog, which none of the four above offer as their core line.
Final verdict
MONTKUSH does something almost nobody in U.S. CBD does: it grows the plant, presses it without solvents, keeps the CBDa intact and publishes the batch reports. If that chain is why you’re shopping, there isn’t a long list of alternatives, and the Raw CBDA Oil Drops at 1500 mg is the bottle that best represents what you’re paying for.
What keeps it at 4.1 rather than higher is price and protection. You pay about 1.7× the nearest organic competitor per milligram, and the guarantee won’t help you if you open the bottle and don’t get on with it. Start with a topical or the gummies if you’re unsure, buy the 1500 mg if you’re not, and use Subscribe & Save if you decide to stay.
Frequently asked questions
Is MONTKUSH a legitimate brand?
Yes. MontKush LLC has been trading since 2019, holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau with only two complaints filed in three years, publishes batch-level certificates of analysis, and has been covered by named publications and a Vice TV series. It is a small company, not a large one — but it is a real one.
What is CBDa, and is it better than CBD?
CBDa is the acidic form of CBD that occurs naturally in living hemp; heat converts it to CBD. Low-temperature rosin pressing preserves it. Human research on CBDa is early and limited, so nobody can responsibly claim it works better than CBD. If you want to try it, MONTKUSH is one of a small number of U.S. brands offering it in oil, gummy and topical form.
Is everything MONTKUSH sells solventless?
No, and this is the most important thing to know before ordering. The oil drops, CBDA rosin gummies, pain relief cream and roll-on and the Body Dose massage oil are pressed rosin. The “True” range — True Daily, True Sleep, True Vibe — is CO₂-extracted, as are the Whole Flower oil and the Pure Full Spectrum gummies and softgels. True Daily CBD Oil 2000mg is a CBD isolate.
Can MONTKUSH products cause a positive drug test?
The full-spectrum products contain THC below the 0.3% federal limit, and some gummies and softgels list THC per serving explicitly. Any full-spectrum hemp product can result in a positive screen. If you are tested for work, do not use these; look for a product certified as non-detectable for THC, and confirm it on the COA.
What is MONTKUSH’s return policy?
Thirty days, but with conditions that matter: it applies to new customers only, covers one product per order, and the item must be unopened and sealed. Original shipping is not refunded. It is closer to a return window for an unwanted parcel than a satisfaction guarantee.
Does MONTKUSH ship to every state?
No. The brand does not ship to Idaho, Nebraska or South Dakota, nor to Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam, and does not ship internationally. Orders go out by USPS and can take up to seven business days, free over $75.
